Here at Eva's World, we are passionate about protecting our environment and promoting sustainable alternatives to everyday items. From switching to a bamboo toothbrush to shopping organic, in this blog post, we share some of our favourite easy sustainable switches you can make to contribute towards a greener planet and reduce your plastic waste.

1. Switch to a wooden toothbrush

We are all well aware by now how bad plastic waste is but what you may not know is how much of our plastic waste can be attributed to our choice of a toothbrush. In the UK alone, around 264 million brushes are thrown away every year! Our brilliant range of eco-friendly toothbrushes is made from natural, sustainable, recyclable and biodegradable bamboo.

The ideal eco-conscious alternative to a plastic toothbrush, bamboo is the perfect material for a toothbrush as it is inherently anti-microbial, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. Our entire selection of wooden toothbrushes, for both adults and children, are available in various vibrant colours with a choice of firm, medium or soft recyclable bristles.

Each toothbrush handle can biodegrade and be put into the home or commercial compost but the bristles need to be pulled out and thrown away in your general waste or recycled at a facility that recycles nylon.

2. Swap cling film for beeswax wraps

Bees Wax Wraps are a fantastic alternative to cling film or similar plastic wraps as they are naturally antibacterial, fully sustainable and reusable. Free of toxic chemicals, our range of Beeswax Food Wraps from Wild & Stone are made with natural cotton, beeswax, jojoba oil and tree resin.

The wax has been infused with cotton and when a bit of warmth is added from your hands, it sticks to virtually everything, but pulls away with no residue - and is food safe! Their simplicity means they are easy to use on a daily basis.

Fold into pockets for nuts and trail mix, roll into cones for popcorn and veggie sticks or simply cover and seal a bowl. Just be sure to keep away from heat sources and warm and hot water.

3. Invest in some sustainable straws

People in England use an estimated 4.7 billion plastic straws each year which is a horrific amount of waste. Thankfully a plastic straw ban came into force in England in 2020 and it is now illegal for businesses to sell or supply them.

Our range of Stainless Steel Cocktail Straws is the ideal travel safe alternative. They come with a cleaning brush in a GOTS certified Organic Cotton Carry Pouch. Super stylish, our eco-friendly drinking straws are the perfect size to be used in short cocktail glasses.

4. Make the switch to shampoo bars

An easy way to reduce your plastic waste is to make the switch to natural and biodegradable shampoo and conditioner bars. They come supplied in plastic-free, eco-friendly packaging that can be recycled to help minimise waste.

These handy little bars are kinder to the planet, gentler on your scalp, and will leave your hair super-duper soft and marvellously manageable. Once your hair has adjusted to the shampoo bars it will feel softer, cleaner and much more manageable, and that’s because natural shampoo bars clean and condition your hair without stripping it of its natural sebum.

5. Shop organic

In a previous blog post, we looked at the impact non-organic farming has on the environment. We discovered some rather shocking statistics including the facts that non-organic cotton production accounts for 3% of global water consumption! An easy way to counteract this is to make sure the clothes you by are made from GOTS certified organic cotton.

GOTS is recognised as the world's leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibres. Not only do they define strict environmental criteria along the entire organic textiles supply chain, but they also require compliance with social criteria as well.

When you buy organic cotton clothing you are not only protecting our environment but you are also supporting the people who farm and produce the clothes we and our children wear. You can browse our entire range of gorgeous organic cotton clothing here.
